Skating into Romance: A Review of Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

Recently, I’ve noticed Icebreaker by Hannah Grace popping up everywhere. I found myself curious about the book, but I hesitated to dive in. I had some serious reservations about whether it would be my cup of tea. I’ve explored quite a few new adult romances before, and let’s be honest, sports romances tend to dominate this genre. While I don’t mind that, I’ve consumed a fair share already, and perhaps I’m content with what I’ve read. Still, when I saw that this book was translated into Dutch, my curiosity got the better of me. So, I gave in, purchased the book, and read it. Did it meet my expectations?

Anastasia Allen has dedicated her life to achieving her dream of joining Team USA. A passionate figure skater since the age of five, she earned a full college scholarship through her talent on the Maple Hills skating team. With a grueling schedule that would challenge anyone, Stassie is determined to succeed—no exceptions. Nathan Hawkins, on the other hand, has always been able to tackle any challenge that comes his way. As the captain of the Maple Hills Titans, he feels the weight of keeping the hockey team performing at their best. When a mix-up leads to both teams sharing the same rink and results in an injury to Anastasia’s partner, Nate finds himself trading his hockey stick for figure skating tights, facing a new, intimidating coach. As they navigate this unexpected situation, they end up spending more time together than anticipated, but that’s okay—because Anastasia definitely doesn’t have a thing for hockey players…does she?

Icebreaker Book Summary

Anastasia Allen has dedicated her life to achieving her dream of joining Team USA. Everything seems to be falling into place when she receives a full scholarship to the University of California, Maple Hills, and secures a spot on their elite figure skating team.

She’s determined to overcome any obstacle, including the captain of the hockey team, Nate Hawkins.

Nate’s main priority as captain is to keep his team practicing on the ice. However, a facility issue forces them to share the rink with the figure skating team, which includes Anastasia, who clearly has no fondness for him.

When Anastasia’s skating partner faces an uncertain future, she might have to turn to Nate for help in pursuing her dreams.

Tensions rise, but Anastasia isn’t concerned… because there’s no way she could ever fall for a hockey player, right?
